The Certificate II Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care will give you a taste of what it might be like to work in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. Electives you could choose include learning about basic health assessments, giving information about emotional support, nutrition guidance and providing first aid.
It is important that you identify as either Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to go into this course and career because you will need to be able to show (and give evidence) that you identify, are, and are accepted in the community where you live or did live, as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
You might be eligible for funding through VET in Schools (VETiS) or the Certificate III Guarantee Program.
Visit www.skillsgateway.training.qld.gov.au and talk to your teachers, VET coordinator, guidance officer and career advisor for more information on what’s available at your school because you might be able to do this course during Year 10, 11 or 12.
