"Don't wait for change,
be the change."
What tasks does your job include? What do you love about your job the most?
My role as a health promotion officer includes day-to-day duties such as preparing, organising and coordinating programs within my community.
I love that I can help my community and still have my feet planted on the ground. I enjoy being an active part of it all and not just sitting behind a desk.
What was your study journey to get this job?
My study journey is a little different to others working within the health sector. For me, my study is continuous, and I never stop learning. So far…
- I graduated high school at Ipswich Boys Grammar School where I also obtained a Certificate Ill in Sport and Recreation through an Indigenous program called PASS Australia, through Former Origin Greats (FOGS).
- I have completed Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Diesel Fitting) and my Certificate Ill in Fitness.
What are your future plans for work and study?
Within my role today, I am very lucky to have a supportive CEO and organisation that believes in positive community growth through staff development.
I am enrolled to complete my Certificate IV in Fitness in 2019 and my Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice in 2020.
My motto is to never stop learning, to better myself, to give 100% to everything I do and to assist my community by assisting others to do the same. I believe the importance of success within ourselves is to measure the success in those around us. My future plans are to commit to always growing and helping others to grow with me.
What is one thing about your study and/or job that you would love to share with people considering this career?
Do not be afraid of the unknown, give everything a go and always give one hundred percent. Don’t wait for change, be the change. Don’t be a sheep or a wolf, be the shepherd that helps guide the way.
